Being Extraordinary
I’m a huge fan of Camp Sunshine. This is not news as I’ve written quite a few times about it. I’ve also talked about some of my awesome friends. And I’ve stated more than once that I’m a Young Adult writer (currently unpublished, but maybe someday that’ll change). And wouldn’t you know, those THREE things have something in common.
Taylor Moseby.
I was 16ish when I met Taylor. I was a Teen Retreat with camp and made a lame Les Miserable joke and he was the only one that got it. From that moment on Taylor and I had a unique understanding for one another. Sadly, we lost touch for a few years. I remember talking with him briefly one NYE about his first book and being insanely proud of him. Taylor is one those guys that you meet and you know that he is going places.
Thanks to the miracles of Facebook we reconnected and it’s been wonderful to have a friend that gets my Les Miz jokes as well as understands the frustrations of being a writer.
Taylor asked me if I’d be willing to read his new children’s book (seeing as that I have a kid and all) and then talk about it on my blog. I immediately said yes because I now feel like a legit blogger who is asked to review stuff.
Elkbar The Penguin is extraordinary. He has really cool gadgets and knows advanced calculus. But, sadly Elkbar is missing something. He has no friends. He’s tried being nice and he’s tried teaching the other penguins advanced calculus and he’s tried sharing his cool gadgets but sadly none of them want to be his friend.
Elkbar is the sweet story of our hero penguin who while trying to figure out how to make some penguin friends manages to save the day and SAVE ALL OF PENGUIN KIND. There’s amazing art work by Chris Fason and Taylor has crafted a genuine, quirky and intelligent story. Go check out his page at Elkbar the Penguin and help get Elkbar off the ground by visiting Elkbar Kickstarted Page.
