Just Keep Swimming… Just Keep Swimming…

About three weeks ago I woke up with a horribly wrenched back.  I could barely breathe without it hurting me.  I hadn’t been to the YMCA at that point in a few weeks and I knew that I desperately needed to get back to it.  So, instead of rowing to my hearts content and then cursing while using the strength training machines I hit the pool for laps.

I hadn’t hit the pool in almost a year.  It’s just simpler and quicker to use the other machines, but I knew that my body needed another type of workout.  I remember that first morning thinking I’d be happy if I could swim a whole six lengths (not laps which is down AND back).  And I was pleasantly surprised by my ability to swim more than one length without stopping for a rest.  Since then I’ve been working up towards swimming a mile.  Now, before you think I’m all awesome and stuff, I take breaks at least after every hundred meters (so, 4 lengths).  I was really pleased with myself that I was able to swim a whole 1500 meters today, almost a mile.

Kennedy also hit the pool this past weekend for her first swim lessons.  She was not a huge fan of the water being in her face OR the possibility of Daddy letting go.  I also realized my baby should probably ingest some straight up lard because she was FREEZING in the indoor heated pool.  The kid needs some fat on her.  I’m not going to swim during her lessons this coming Saturday so I can take some pictures.
