The End of an Era
First Day of School, 2010/2011
Last Day of School, 2010/2011
My Sweet Kennedy,
Thursday was your last day of school for the “school” year. I put this in quotes because you’re going to be going to a few weeks of summer camp this summer and probably won’t really notice the blip in our now established routine. Sure, you are just moving up from being in the one/twos class to the twos/threes but it was a big deal for your Mom.
On Thursday as I drove to school to pick you up I thought about the sweet baby I’d left at school on that day back in August. You weren’t a strong walker yet and still preferred to walk on your knees most places. I was nervous that you’d get left behind or trampled by the “big” kids in your class. You didn’t have enough hair for me to need to even brush it on a regular basis. I wanted to hang around all day and make sure that your teachers would let you have your blanket if you asked for it. Instead, I left you that morning and went to the appointment I’d made (just to make sure I didn’t hang around the school all day).
On Thursday I picked up a sassy little two year old who has very definite opinions. Who has learned that she can out run Mom if I’m not sneaky enough to catch you. You not only walk, run and sorta jump, but you love to throw yourself from as many surfaces as you can. You can tell me about your day and sing me the songs that you have learned. You can walk in a line, sit on the rug and listen to stories and sit in a big girl chair and (pretend) to eat your lunch.
Baby Girl, I could not have hand picked a better group of people for you to spend your first year of school in. Ms. Bibbi and Ms. Lil were sent from God, I have no doubt. They loved you for your sassy personality and silly nature. They held you when you wanted (which from what I understand is a lot of the time) and made sure your blanket was there if you needed it (but not if you didn’t). They taught you songs and told you stories. They let you play and be silly. They tossed you around like you were a bean bag (which you LOVE). And these last few weeks nothing has made my heart happier than to see you run down the driveway of school and into your classroom straight to Ms. Bibbi’s waiting arms.
I hope this is just the start of your love of school. I hope each year you love to learn and will be just as happy to run to your new teachers arms. I hope you continue to be challenged and pushed to be the best Kennedy.
I’m so proud of you,
Mama.
PS- Don’t be too hard on next years teachers because they aren’t M’Lil and M’Beebee.
