Work Space Frustration

It could also be titled Kati’s Writing Work In Progress Is Driving Her Crazy So She Rearranges Things.

I got a little irritated with the cramped quarters of my “office.”  It’s in quotes because it’s really just a part of our guest bedroom.  So… this is the before.

It was cramped and I wasn’t getting the most use out of my space.  Plus, things had gotten cluttered (I found lots of hair care products) and that needed to be taken care of.

I saw this on Pinterest and thought, well, I could do that.  So, yesterday when I was quite irritated with my writing I made the cork boards.  I just took the four that you see there and covered them with fabric from my remnants pile.  We happen to have a gazillion curtain rods so I didn’t have to buy anything.  Maybe in the future I’ll get some small pieces of moulding and mount them to the sides of the cork boards to give them more of a frame, but it works for now.

And now I have this:

I rotated my desk (really our old kitchen table) and put it on the wall my shelves/cabinet used to be on.  Then I moved the cabinet/shelves to the other wall to give me the appearance of more room.

I also moved as much of my equipment off of my desk as I could.  One printer is underneath the table and the other is on top of the craft cabinet.  I also moved some of my pretty boxes out the my open shelves and hid more of my unsightly storage containers.  The chair was meant to be used as a vanity chair when I bought it nearly ten years ago and it has never seen the inside of a bathroom.  I like it because it’s not as large so it fits better under the table.

The chalk board is really just an old dry erase board that I painted and then vamped up with some ribbon.  The pictures actually came out of Kennedy’s room.  They’d never been hung and I like them around me while I work.

I would like to upholster the top of the table with some bright pink fabric and change the seat of the chair to match that.  Ideally I’d paint the legs of the table a nice white, but I’m not sure if I’m that ambitious yet.

I think my favorite part of this project was that I didn’t spend any money.
